t’Do you love easy?! Sometimes, due to time constraints, I have to let go of the “over-the-top,” “completely homemade” holiday items and simply go with what’s easy. This Holiday Snack Mix is one of those items. With this recipe, the hardest part is finding a bowl big enough to mix it thoroughly! The combo of salty, sweet, crisp, and soft, my Holiday Snack Mix is a true crowd-pleaser! π
As with many great ideas, my Holiday Snack Mix recipe was born from desperation. Our school hosts a senior citizen dinner every year before Christmas. It is a fun afternoon! The band plays, the chorus carols, the cooks bake, and my foods students help make festive take-home goodies. However, the dinner this year also overlaps with several other classroom projects, so my class time is limited. I don’t have time to make more ornate decorated sugar cookies. Plus, I need to have at least 80 gift bags.
Large Batch Holiday Snack Mix Recipe…
To solve my problem, I started looking online for ideas. However, none of the “recipes” I found gave me exact amounts. This is a problem for an FCS teacher! I’m all about specific measurements! π
I also wanted the recipe to be relatively cheap to make but didn’t look that way! I don’t care if people think I’m thrifty…that’s a great thing! The cost of these goodies was coming out of our food budget. I needed to feed a lot of people on very little. So I visited my favorite grocery store…Aldi! I was able to get all the necessary supplies except for huge bag of animal crackers and the red and green peanut butter M&Ms. (However, you could use regular M&Ms, if you wanted.)
The finished mix is one of my favorite throw together recipes! I like that the animal crackers remind me of reindeer and the red and green M&Ms mixed with the pieces of dark chocolate and fluffy marshmallows add nice color. This mix isn’t smothered in melted almond bark, making it relatively healthy. (This recipe contains much less sugar and fat than other holiday recipes.) It’s perfect for kids of any age… from 1 to 101! π
I hope you’ll try my Large Batch Holiday Snack Mix for your next classroom treat bag, Christmas party, or holiday snack. Please let me know what you think! π

The colors of the M&Ms can be changed for each season. Also, feel free to add any of your other favorite small candies. (candy corn, Reese's Pieces, burnt peanuts, etc.) I like packaging in clear treat bags from the dollar store, but this can also be served in a giant bowl with a scoop. π
