Teacher Appreciation Week is this week and the end of the school year is right around the corner. Have you ever stopped to think how much our teachers do for our kids? Honestly, unless you are an educator, it really is hard to explain the job of a teacher. No matter the grade level, teachers act as parents, caregivers, nurses, counselors, crafters, educators, disciplinarians, role models, organizers, event planners, coaches, and speakers…these are only a few of the roles played by teachers daily.
These individuals spend more time with other peoples’ children every day than they do with their own. They don’t have the most glamorous job, but it is one of the most important. As a thank you for all the hard work my kids’ teachers have put into their education this year, I wanted to make a very special teacher appreciation gift. Also, my goal was to keep costs to a minimum since I have six teachers to thank. 🙂
How to Make Mini Succulent Teacher Appreciation Gifts
- Purchase 3 inch pots filled with mini succulents! From my local home store, these were $3 each. Yay!!!
- Purchase Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue. (I’ve had my bottle for at least ten years and this stuff is great for all kinds of craft projects!)
- Purchase a roll of natural jute twine. Again, a roll of this will last a long, long, long time! 🙂
- Spread a layer of glue around base of each 3 inch pot. Next, beginning at the top, wrap the twine around the pot until you get to the bottom. Snip the twine and press the end into the glue to seal. Easy!
- Print off free “Thank you for helping me grow” tags on card stock. Cut tags and glue on Popsicle sticks. (I used leftovers from a package of caramels.)
- Place each plant in a clear plastic bag, tie with jute twine, if desired, and take to school for each teacher!
Here are a couple pictures to show the easy steps for this teacher appreciation gift:
This project couldn’t have been easier. Honestly, it took me less than thirty minutes to make six of these for my kids’ teachers. I am extremely happy with how these little guys turned out, and I would be super-excited if any of my students brought me such a sweet little token of their appreciation.
Teachers don’t do their jobs for the glory…believe me. 🙂 Teachers teach because they LOVE THEIR JOBS. I don’t know if I’m good at teaching my students skills they will need in their everyday lives as adults. Many days, I feel like my level of patience isn’t what it should be or I haven’t adequately explained how to do _______. I’m sure teachers everywhere feel the same. Please know that little words of encouragement go a long way toward helping teachers/coaches/mentors feel like they are doing the job that God intended.
Please have a wonderful week, and if you have a chance to show your teachers, coaches, or mentors a little bit of appreciation for the work they’ve done, please consider a sweet little succulent gift. They are easy, inexpensive, and sure to bring a smile to the face of someone special! Please feel free to use my free gift tag (below) for all of your “green” gifts throughout the year. 🙂
