Do you dream about your kids becoming great readers? I do! I absolutely LOVE TO READ! For me, reading is like a buffet. I taste the first few pages, find I like the flavor, and end up coming back for more way too often, basically devouring the entire book! I want reading to be like that for my kids, but I also want to protect them from experiencing too much sex, violence, or poor moral examples too early. (Not that I’m advocating those things at all, but I feel like adults tend to do a better job at minimizing the importance of these in the context of the overall plot.) Impossible Road was my solution to these issues. I loved writing Impossible Find, but I felt like the characters’ story wasn’t finished. So, I had to write on!
The Impossible Series…
Impossible Find looks at sixteen-year-old Emily Waller and her quest to recover after a devastating accident left her scarred, inside and out. She feels extreme guilt over the accident, she hasn’t spoken with her friends in months, and the new guy down the street, Will Palmer, is totally not what she expected. As Will gets more involved in Emily’s life, the more she realizes things aren’t what they seem.
Emily keeps finding pieces of her past—messages from fate. But fate could be playing tricks. When Emily is threatened by real danger, she learns that nothing is impossible. Through a story of loss, love, and resurrection, Emily Waller discovers that her eternal fate lies with the handsome and mysterious, Will Palmer—someone Emily never thought she would find.
Impossible Road picks up the story of Will and Emily. After a few crazy months, Emily hopes for a normal high school life. She wants her perfect boyfriend close and no more escaping from soul-grabbing demons. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. She hasn’t seen her true love, Will, in weeks, and her friends keep trying to set her up with Brighton High School’s new basketball star, Andy Bolier. Unsure of whether to pursue the boy who lives down the street or to wait for Will, Emily is at war with herself.
Meanwhile, Will is working hard to make his way back to Emily, but things keep getting in his way. The Dominions are beyond stubborn, and all hell is about to break loose. An impossible decision must be made, even if the two parts of Will’s life are at odds. Can he do his job and be with Emily?
Why?
I wrote these two books first and foremost because I wanted to see if I could. 🙂 It took years, both in writing and editing, to complete two books, each containing 80,000+ words. I want my kids to know that when a goal is set, it is possible to reach the goal through hard work, even if it takes years! Delayed gratification is a wonderful thing, and something I don’t think the current generation necessarily understands.
Secondly, I wanted to produce books my kids would enjoy. Our son isn’t old enough to read the Impossible Series yet, but our daughter just completed both books. When she told me she cried, I knew I’d created something that could touch other’s hearts. I wanted a clean, thought-provoking story that teens would enjoy reading. My goal was a plot that was different from many of the other dystopian novels with difficult names and settings in other worlds. I was aiming for something that felt real.
Finally, I want to be a full-time writer. This is a pipe dream at the moment, but we all have to have dreams and goals. Once we stop trying to achieve something better or learn more for ourselves, our brains stop improving. I LOVE learning and I LOVE a challenge! This might be why I stopped teaching at the university level…I didn’t want to focus on one project for my Ph. D. I have so many interests!
Instead, I have the credentials to teach at the middle and high school level the Social Sciences, English, and Family and Consumer Sciences. This might be the weirdest combination ever for a teaching certificate, but it fits me! After all, aren’t we all really meant to use our gifts and talents to help others, no matter how crazy or “outside the box”? Because I am who I am, my books all include teenagers, history, and food! 🙂 Hey, it makes me happy!
I would love to have you try the Impossible Series! Please let me know what you think! Though I don’t have nearly enough time to devote to my writing, it is something I enjoy and I’m passionate about finding literature young people find interesting. Please help me in my quest and share Impossible Find and Impossible Road with someone who needs a new type of story. 🙂
